The Norwegian Forest Cat is a real nature breed and belongs to the forest
cat breeds like the Siberian Forest Cat, Maine Coon and Turkish Angora.
It is a relatively large cat, with hind legs longer than the front legs.
The Norwegian has half-long hair and has all normal cat colors.
The paws are big and sturdy, with tufts of hair between the toes.
Typical too are the very expressive
eyes –large and almond shaped- and the bushy tail.
These cats have well developed muscles. Especially the males are imposing,
while the females are a lot smaller. The male Norwegian weighs
up to 5 or even 7 kg, the females about 3,5 to 5 kg.
The Norwegian Forest Cat is an excellent hunter and well adapted
to survive in a climate of extreme temperatures. The reason is that they
possess a waterproof fur coat of three layers.
There is a distinct difference between the summer and the winter fur,
which is thicker than the summer one.
They can themselves take care of this coat; only during the moulting-time
they need some human help
